Eight Tools of the Witch

Eight Tools of the Witch:

1. The Athame - a tool of the element fire or air. A double-edged ritual dagger traditionally with a black hilt that is used to cast circles of protection, banish negative energy, and charge an consecrate objects.

2. The Bell - a tool of invocation, bells are most often used to banish negative energy or negative influences and for space clearing at the beginning of rituals.

(Mine is a thrift store find made from glass and painted with spring flowers)

3. The Besom - a broom used to purify rituals and celebration areas by symbolically sweeping away negative energies. Besoms are also used to protect against negativity and psychic attacks.

4. The Cauldron - a tool of the element water. A pot or vessel used in the making of brews and potions, and for the making of small fires for certain magickal rites. Cauldrons can also be used for divination purposes and are a symbol of death and birth/rebirth and the womb of the Goddess.

(No cauldron? You can use any cast iron cookware!)

5. The Censer - a tool of the element air. A container, usually with a handle for ease in carrying. Used to burn incense during rituals and celebrations. (These are used for incense cones more than sticks. If you already burn incense, you already have a holder that you can use.)

6. The Chalice - A tool of the element water. Used to symbolize both containment and the womb of the Goddess. The chalice is also used to hold blessed water, libations, or wine during rituals.

(mine came from a thrift store, made from crystal)

7. The Pentacle - A tool of the element earth. A round, solid disk made from stone, wood, or metal with a pentagram either carved into it or drawn onto it. (You can make your own if you'd like.)

8. The Wand - A tool of the element fire or air. A tool of invocation, wands are used to charge objects, bestow blessings, draw down the moon during rituals and celebrations, and evoke the God and Goddess. Wands can be made of wood, glass, or various metals and are sometimes tipped on one or both ends with a crystal or gemstone.

(my mom made hers with a varnished tree branch and a quartz crystal attached to one end)

If you want to see my tools (at least the ones I have so far), I can make a post and share those!

All photos in this post I pulled from Google by searching for the object.
